Los bosques de pino-encino del Cerro de San Juan albergan una rica avifauna de clima templado, incluyendo trogones, chipes y diversas especies endémicas del occidente mexicano. La mañana temprana es el mejor momento para la observación. Se recomienda llevar binoculares y guía de campo. El acceso a los senderos es libre.
