What to do in Mexico City this weekend — 2026 guide

Ciudad de MéxicoMay 4, 2026

If you live in CDMX or you're just passing through, weekends are the perfect excuse to break out of "routine mode" and explore one of the most culturally dense cities on the continent. This guide isn't the generic list of Chapultepec and Coyoacán you already know — it's what's happening THIS weekend, organized by neighborhood, vibe, and budget.

CDMX moves in cycles: Friday nights belong to Roma-Condesa-Juárez, Saturday to Centro Histórico and emerging areas like San Rafael or Doctores, and Sunday to Coyoacán-Chapultepec-Polanco. If you plan with this logic, you'll save time on traffic and make better use of each neighborhood.

Friday night: Roma–Condesa–Juárez

The city's most lively trio. Start with early dinner at Lardo (Atlixco 144) or Maximo Bistrot (Tonalá 133). Then hit up a mezcal bar — Pulquería Las Duelistas (Aranda 30, Centro) is still a must for starting the night authentically.

For Friday concerts, check the schedule on NoTeLimites — there are venues that rotate programming every week: Foro Indie Rocks!, El Plaza Condesa, Multiforo Alicia, Foro Shakespeare. A good filter: sort by "tonight" and filter by genre.

Saturday daytime: Markets, museums, and Centro

Saturday morning is all about markets. Mercado de San Juan (exotic meats, European cheeses), Mercado Roma (trendy food court), and Mercado de Jamaica (flowers) — each one changes your perspective.

For museums, arrive early: Museo Soumaya (always free), Museo Jumex (Thursday to Sunday, $50), Museo Anahuacalli if you're into pre-Hispanic stuff (Diego Rivera's, Coyoacán). Museums usually have temporary exhibitions that change every 3-4 months; NoTeLimites lets you know when new ones open.

Saturday night: Concerts, theater, parties

CDMX literally has concerts every Friday and Saturday. The key venues: - Pepsi Center WTC — big bands - Auditorio BlackBerry — international indie - El Plaza Condesa — medium capacity, great sound - Foro Indie Rocks! — up-and-coming and local acts - Foro del Tejedor — intimate café-concerts

For theater, Foro Shakespeare and Teatro Helénico rotate shows every weekend. Stand-up at El Vicio (Coyoacán) or Bonsai Comedy Club (Roma).

Sunday: Slow mode

Sunday in CDMX is for walking. Bosque de Chapultepec first section (free), Paseo Dominical de Reforma (cyclists until 2pm), or Coyoacán Centro with its craft market and plazas. If you want culture, the Museo Nacional de Antropología is always a solid bet — you need at least 3 hours to do it justice.

Sunday brunches are an institution: Lalo!, Frëims, Fiebre de Malta, Ojo de Agua. Make a reservation or arrive before 11am.

If you're visiting from out of town: the 48-hour plan

If your CDMX weekend is express tourism:

  • Friday night: Roma or Condesa — local taquería + mezcal bar
  • Saturday morning: Centro Histórico — Cathedral, Templo Mayor, Palacio de Bellas Artes (check out the Murales)
  • Saturday afternoon: Mercado de San Juan + lunch there
  • Saturday night: Concert or theater in Roma/Condesa
  • Sunday: Bosque de Chapultepec + Museum of Anthropology, brunch in Polanco, evening flight

Extra tip: Festivals and seasons

CDMX has festivals almost monthly. The big ones: Festival del Centro Histórico (Mar-Apr), Festival del Bosque (summer), Festival de México (fall), MUTEK (electronic, October), Tonalmaya (cinema in plazas).

Mark your dates and adjust your flights: the difference between an ordinary weekend and one with a festival matters A LOT.
