El parque alberga especies únicas de la zona de transición entre bosque templado y páramo de altura: águila real, halcón peregrino, teporingo (conejo de los volcanes) y diversas orquídeas. Tours de ecoturismo y avistamiento de aves son ofrecidos por operadores locales en Calcahualco. Consulta operadores certificados ante SECTUR.
