About the event

The practice of Tai Chi is about discovering yourself. It’s about forces of the world—both natural and unnatural—and how one relates to them… Art is about the same thing. -Ed Young Tai Chi Master Sherry Zhang returns to the Museum of Chinese in America for a unique workshop inspired by Ed Young's Bright Worlds and his beloved book Voices of the Heart. For centuries, Tai Chi has been one of the foundational practices of Chinese martial arts. Its influence extends far beyond combat, serving as a path toward physical and mental well-being while inspiring philosophers, entrepreneurs, and artists across disciplines—including Ed Young. Ed Young drew inspiration from Chinese philosophy, calligraphy, storytelling, and Tai Chi, which he studied with renowned master Cheng Man-ch'ing (1902-1975). Through gentle Tai Chi movements, mindful breathing, and reflection on some meaningful Chinese characters like Heart (心) and others relate to the heart. Participants will explore how ancient wisdom can deepen our connection to ourselves, others, and the world around us. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer is the season of the Heart, making this an ideal time to cultivate presence, creativity, and inner harmony. Come discover how movement, art, and language can help us hear the quiet voice of the heart. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Ed Young's Bright Worlds are currently on view until September 13, 2026. ABOUT Sherry Zheng Sherry Zhang is a master Tai Chi and Qigong instructor and the founder of TaiChiSolution Inc.
