This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Freedom 250 commemorations like ours focus on the founding of the United States and the stories which make up our shared history. In September of 1780, militia from North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia came marching from “over the mountains” to defeat British Major Patrick Ferguson’s forces at the Battle of Kings Mountain. This victory turned the tide of the American Revolution in the Patriots favor. Re-enactors will demonstrate traditional crafts and skills such as cartridge rolling, spinning, candle making. You will have the oppurtunity to discover what made this campaign unique. Reservations are required for students and teachers to rotate through our colonial era stations on Thursday or Friday. Space is limited and reservations must be made through BLRI_Info@nps.gov . For more information, call the Museum of North Carolina Minerals at 828-765-2761 or email BLRI_Info@nps.gov Events may be modified or canceled during inclement weather.
