Take a "Stair-Master" hike on some of Acadia's historic granite stairs to a dynamic view of Frenchman's Bay, the Pocumpine Islands, and the Great Meadow. Along the way you will learn about the natural and cultural history that make Acadia's trails so memorable. About a 1.5-mile loop. Elevation gain ~480 feet with 400 consecutive stone stairs. Location:: Sieur de Monts, Outside of the Nature Center Important Visitor Information: Meet at Sieur de Monts outside the Nature Center. Restrooms and bottle fill stations are located next to parking area, Limited to 19 participants. No pets, please. Trail conditions: Route includes rocky terrain, elevation gain, stone steps, and rock staircases, Must be able to comfortably climb and descend ~400 uneven stone stairs as well as walk safely on uneven trails. Trail includes forested sections and open exposure to the elements. In rainy conditions, the route may be modified due to slippery granite surfaces. What to bring: Insect repellent, water, sunscreen, layers/rain gear appropriate for the weather. Closed-toe shoes with good traction are required and hiking poles are recommended.
