European Blues Challenge: Finnish leg of the competition comes to Cultural Centre Malmitalo in Helsinki. Finland’s representative at the so-called Eurovision contest for blues music is set to be chosen for 2027. The European Blues Union (EBU), the umbrella organisation for European blues operators, has been organising the European Blues Challenge (EBC) across Europe for 15 years now, and the competition can rightly be described as the ‘Eurovision of blues music’. Every year, more than 20 countries have sent representatives to the EBC. Finland has always taken part (since 2011). Each EBU member state organises the selection of its own national representative. From among the blues bands and solo artists who entered the competition, four acts were selected for this competition following a preliminary round judged by active Finnish members of the European Blues Union (EBU). Finland’s final representative for the 2027 EBC will be selected by a panel of experts independent of the organisers at this concert at Malmitalo. The competition starts at 18.00, with each band playing for 20 minutes. The main EBC 2027 event will take place in Vila do Conde, Portugal, from 8 to 10 April 2027. The finalists in the Finnish qualifying competition are Keystone Boys with Sister Mirkka, Sylvi Saarekas Band, Yukka White, and Groovehill Four! Over the years, Malmitalo has become a major venue for blues music in Helsinki. The selection of Finland’s representative for the 2027 EBC is now taking place for the first time at Malmitalo, in collaboration with the Finnish Blues Society (FBS).
