Kiertokollektiivi's clothing swap event returns to Tiivistämö, bigger than ever this time. In honor of autumn break, Kiertokollektiivi takes over all of Tiivistämö together with its partners. The event offers a wider range of programming than before. In the hall, the program includes a panel discussion that stirs up hope and agency, a clothing repair and upcycling workshop by the Mendis collective, and a styling corner where you can play with new styles. In the lobby, the program includes the clothing swap familiar to many, plus five fantastic DJs who'll keep the mood right while you search for new favorite pieces. In Kiertokollektiivi's first panel discussion, the topic is approached from a perspective of hope and solutions. The panelists look for answers to the question of what an individual person can do to reduce textile waste. What grassroots means of influence do individuals and small local communities have? What choices and actions can create change and increase pressure on a system that doesn't value sustainability? And most importantly, how do we keep hope alive and find our own agency "in a world that's burning"? Taking part in the panel are postdoctoral researcher Linda Turunen (Aalto University), and designer and sustainable textile industry expert and educator Emilia Kiiskinen (Mendis collective, Fashion Revolution Finland). The panel is moderated by philosopher and environmental activist Riina Nykänen. During the panel, the audience will also have the chance to ask the panelists questions. Mendis Workshop In the workshop led by the Mendis collective, you can alter, repair, and personalize treasures you found at the clothing swap, or bring your own repair or upcycling project along. You can also use fabrics and other craft materials found at Kiertokollektiivi's material swap, or continue an unfinished craft project someone else left at the material swap point. The workshop offers a selection of tools and materials for basic machine and hand sewing, as well as equipment for some special techniques. Styling Corner At Kiertokollektiivi's styling corner, you can style your dream outfit or freely play with different styles and try something new. The styling corner offers a low-threshold, no-commitment chance to explore and try on different looks: at the station you can capture your outfits in a photo — and save the look for later inspiration without having to take the clothes home. Lobby Clothing swap + DJs The clothing swap runs throughout the event as usual in the lobby. Bring in-good-condition seasonal clothes you no longer need, and find new favorite pieces in exchange. Come spend a relaxed autumn-break Sunday updating your wardrobe and soaking up the DJ sets. How do I take part? Go through your wardrobe and pick out the nice, good-condition seasonal clothes that deserve a new chance on someone else. Wash the clothes and make sure they have no stains or holes. Bring the clothes with you to the event. We, the organizers, will put them on display. Browse, look around, try things on, and pick new favorite pieces from clothes brought in by other participants. You don't need to swap clothes one-for-one. You can take whatever you want and need, even if you don't have anything to recycle yourself! You can also bring craft materials and unfinished craft projects to the swap.
